What is happening on the international marine education / marine science scene in 2017?

World Science Festival (Brisbane, Australia: March 22 to 26) This international event will be held in Brisbane and other Queensland venues in March. There will be a number of ocean topics, including “Microplastics: A Macro Problem” addressed. Details at http://www.worldsciencefestival.com.au.

CaNOE 2017 (Nova Scotia, Canada: May 18 to 21) The delightfully named CaNOE (Canadian Network for Ocean Education) is a recently formed national ocean / marine education network. They will meet for their third national conference in Wolfville, Nova Scotia from May 18 to 21. Details at http://eecom.org/2017-conference/.

GOSE 2017 (Venice, Italy: May 23 to 25) The third Global Ocean Science Education (GOSE) workshop will be held in Venice, Italy from May 23 to 25. The 2017 GOSE Workshop will focus on the global ocean science education priority topics identified during the 2016 workshop. Visit the GOSE workshop website for details.

Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission UN Ocean Conference (New York, USA: June 5 to 9) The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission is proud to support The Ocean Conference @UN in New York from 5 to 9 June, 2017.  NMEA 2017 (Charlestown SC, USA: June 25 to 29) The next National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) national conference will be held in Charlestown South Carolina, USA from June 25 to 29. For those of you not familiar with NMEA these conferences are really worth the effort to travel all the way across the Pacific (and the USA this time). International delegates are welcomed warmly by NMEA folk and scholarships are available. Details at http://www.marine-ed.org/?2017conference.

 AMEA 2017 (The Philippines: September) The Asian Marine Educator Association formed in 2015 held their first meeting in Taiwan in September 2016. AMEA is now planning to meet again in the Philippines in September 2017. Stay tuned for details.

EMSEA (Malta: October 7 to 10) The recently formed and dynamic European Marine Educators Association (EMSEA) and great things are happening in Europe, including the Sea Change project (Web: www.seachangeproject.eu). The EMSEA17 conference will be held in Malta from October 7 to 10. Go to http://www.emsea.eu/conferences for conference updates.

IPMEN (Taiwan: 2018) The International Pacific Marine Educators Network www.ipmen.net will hold its next conference in Taiwan in 2018.
